We spend the month of May chasing longbeards. Basswood offers fully guided turkey hunting packages on thousands of acres of private property. The turkey population in the St. Lawrence River Valley has exploded over the last decade which, in turn, has provided outstanding success rates during the Spring season.

At Basswood we hunt a variety of habitat from the rolling ridges of the foothills of the Adirondacks to the flatground along the St. Lawrence River Valley. The staff at Basswood go out of their way to have several birds scouted to hunt in a single mornings outing. A typical day starts out hunting a bird that had been pre-scouted and roosted the night before by one of our guides.  Then hopefully we have a successful early morning. However, on the mornings when it’s not that easy, we will run and gun until we find a lonely Tom.

We kill as many turkeys from 10am-Noon as we do just after flydown. Once we have a bird in hand and back to the lodge to celebrate your guide will assist you in cleaning your turkey. Our season runs from May 1st-31st. We can hunt until noon only in New York with a two bird limit (one a day).
